Shortly before 1910, the Royal Navy launched a major study programme on diving and equipment for heavyfoot divers. The results will be used for the adoption of the "standard" model. Based on the study, the Siebe-Gorman 6-bolt helmet was the model adopted by the Royal Navy at the beginning of WW1 and remained so until the end of the Heavyfoot divers. It follows the same modifications over time as the 12-bolt helmets.
